Yesterday Iran retaliated for an Israeli strike inside their own borders. They decided to send hundreds of armed drones to Israel. This mighty threat to Middle East hegemony launched the attack and it took five hours for the drones to reach their targets. Of course Israel, with all of its sophisticated US provided technology, knew the minute the drones were launched and prepared their “dome defense”, also provided by the US, to swat the drones from the sky before they could do any damage.
For all the saber rattling I’ve heard over Iran and the threat they pose to peace in the Middle East I found this “attack” to be a rather weak response. Up against US technology their efforts had effectively no chance at damaging Israel.
Further north our Mighty and nuclear armed adversary Russia has been fighting near two years in Ukraine. And still has yet to achieve their objective. No one seems to notice that this great American foe is taking two years to win against Ukraine, which doesn’t actually have a world-wide reputation as an armed power. Now I realize that Russia could end the war in a day by employing said nukes, but such a decision would bring world condemnation and could trigger a catastrophic response. One they absolutely do not want to deal with at all.
So Mighty Mother Russia continues to fight a conventional war in Ukraine, a Ukraine that is getting help from the US in strategy and weapons, and they just can’t seem to take down the country even after almost two years.
Wait, what?
All our lives we’ve been hearing what a threat to the US this mighty Russia is, we’ve been on high alert since the 1950’s over Russia.
I had to climb under my desk in school doing air raid drills over the Soviet Union. Wondering how a piece of plywood desk top was going to save me from a nuclear attack. Ominous signs lined the school walls “fallout shelter”, which happened to be the small meeting hall attached to the school that also doubled as a gym. A gym with a concrete floor. That made for some fun when you fell down being pushed in some game the gym teacher made up. But back to Russia, Russia, Russia.
Today the “axis of evil” in the world is said to be North Korea, Russia, and Iran.
The big dog Russia can’t take down little, disorganized, corrupt, half-Russian in the Donbas anyway, Ukraine in two years.
Iran launched a retaliatory strike against their great foe Israel and it took five hours to arrive. Five hours! And there couldn’t have been any damage, if the attack took out even an outhouse it would have been front page news with a picture of the damage writ large.
North Korea shoots missiles out into the sea but has no electricity grid. At night the country is completely dark. The people there live as if it is still 1800. Using US technology and weapons South Korea could take them down in weeks. Yet we are told they are a big threat to the US.
You know, I’m starting to believe our State Department, Pentagon, and Military Leaders aren’t being very truthful about the real nature of the threats to us.
I keep seeing mighty Saddam crawling out of a mud hole. Quite a different ending than I expected from a guy shooting a rifle on the palace balcony and yelling boastful threats against the West.
Israel strikes Iran and takes out reactors, suspected nuclear development sites, generals they don’t favor, military leaders they deem terrorists, and they attack any time they want. Sometimes they don’t even use military force against Iran. They attack using cyber weapons and take down parts of their power grid, their suspected centrifuge developments.
Iran sends a five hour response. Hitler took Poland in WWII, the entire country, in less time than it took those drones to arrive over their targets.
Is it me?
Because I’m starting to think maybe the threats against us are, uh, slightly overblown.
I’m beginning to think that our technological military capabilities are not just advanced beyond the rest of the world, but so far beyond that there are really no threats to our standing as the greatest military power in the world.
Sure I understand that we were mired in Afghanistan for twenty years, but I am starting to suspect that our military industrial complex stretched that one out to keep the dollars flowing and the party going as long as possible.
It appears from this desk far from the dangerous front that the best way to “attack” the US in combat is waging war from a cave. Because the Taliban and ISIS and all these other rag tag bandit groups supplied with arms by the Soviet Union used some pretty backward methods to give us fits in Afghanistan.
But then again I am not sure we had any clear objective there either. In twenty years I never heard any plan that explained what victory there looked like. Did you? I was never informed by any of our newspapers or talking heads exactly what we were doing there, and what the end game of victory was supposed to accomplish.
I think what it was supposed to do was enrich the military industrial complex with riches beyond measure, and to provide so much money that they could buy up our Congress and Senate and ensure that the money would flow unending forever no matter what the will of the American people might be.
Call me cynical. But I’ve been hearing that it is WWIII if Iran ever attacks Israel. So it happened and I sit expecting catastrophic results.
So Iran attacked. I sat for five hours. Waiting.
