No one is asking me but I have some sage advice for these Presidential campaigns. The first thing I would tell them is to stop saving big wads of cash to spend in some last minute burst to convince Election Day voters to sway their vote and move their vote into one camp or the other.
Under our current twenty-four hour news cycle, combined with Twitter, and with the drumbeat influence of all the other online platforms, including the podcasts, by this point in any current election cycle we are all too exhausted to listen to any more messaging.
Whatever they are spending going into this weekend it is all wasted dollars.
By now the cake is baked, and the icing is complete. It is a vanilla cake with a cream frost icing, no amount of tinkering is going to suddenly turn the damn thing into a carrot cake with cream cheese icing, at this late point in the process. The votes are baked in.
Exhaustion. To the extent of a near dread. By this point in time, that is where we are.
We reach for the device, or click on the computer out of habit and algorithmic influence, and become dismayed when political ads begin to flow continuously this close to the actual election.
Numb.
We are numb, inured to the messaging, at this point in the election cycle it all becomes a nagging background noise we just want to turn off, even the ads from our own candidates.
A comedian made tasteless jokes about Puerto Rico over the weekend at the Trump Madison Square Garden rally and sucked up all the focus and ire for an entire day just a week out from Election Day. The Left used the slurs as proof that MAGA is racist and the “New Nazis”, the Right used the incident to demonstrate the Left can no longer take a joke.
Frankly I’ve been sick of Puerto Ricans since Rita Moreno broke onto the scene, and everyone went crazy over “West Side Story”. Celebrating the damage done by Puerto Rican gangs in New York using song and dance routines seemed a bit ridiculous to me from day one. Dressing up gang warfare and knifings with gay choreography and a bunch of attractive male dancers was a strange way to mask a serious crime problem, I’ll tell you that much. Jerome Robbins had some sick and twisted fantasies, only on Broadway can your odd sexual desire to glamorize a knife fight win a Tony Award.
“There’s a place for us…..”, “yeah, it’s called Puerto Rico, not New York City. Take a plane back home, spare us the knifings and crime sprees.
With five days left they’ve labeled me a Nazi, what is left?
How low can they go? What is below Nazi? Satan?
Calling us all Satan would be absurd, everyone in America knows that is reserved for Hillary Clinton. She gave Baphomet an STD.
There is only one thing I’ve seen as a positive coming out of going down the home stretch of this election cycle. Which is the full and complete exposure of Democrat lies.
At first it was “No illegals are voting in our elections”.
Then it was, “oh a few votes get through, but that is so rare there is no impact on the election”.
And now Democrats in two states are suing to keep illegals on the voting roles.
Of course it makes absolutely no sense that illegals should even be on voter roles, they have no business getting a voter’s card, they cannot legally vote in our elections. They are not citizens, no matter how long they’ve lived here amongst us all.
But now we have the Democratic Party suing to keep illegals who somehow managed to get a voter’s card, I would guess through the motor-voter bill, to ensure they remain on the voting rolls.
That is pure insanity.
And demonstrates the extremes of the Democratic Party. Which should be instructive. There is no end to the cheating, conniving, lying, and stealing they will do to win an election. What we really need is enforcement of Federal election laws across the spectrum of states. The Wisconsin Supreme Court just voted to allow ballots that have no postmark that arrive as much as three days late to be counted. Wisconsin could be pivotal, we just can’t have them defying election laws and changing the rules at this late date.
We need the actual Supreme Court to step in and right that wrong. Their vote goes against that states actual election laws, against their state constitution. Ridiculous.
Illegals are voting in California in huge numbers. They skew the totals and cause idiots to wail and gnash teeth over the Electoral College, claiming we need to do away with the Electoral College that levels the playing field for the smaller states, and to use the majority vote totals to elect our President. Sure, we need to hand over the entire election to illegals voting in California. That is the solution, of course.
So on the plus side their hysteria at the end of this election cycle has exposed the Democrats for the liars they are, who want to count every vote, even illegal ones.
And you?
Where are your emotions just five days out from a pivotal election?
Are you with me, do you feel some sense of exhaustion and dread?
I’d add amazement as well, because our fellow humans will surprise and dismay when they reach the point of being over-stimulated by the election. I saw one guy on Twitter today give credit to John Oliver for doing a “deep dive” into a political issue and exposing the truth.
Holy Shit. If you are relying on transplanted England born John Oliver for your political truths, you are so far gone they should take your right to vote away.
I saw another tweet from a man who said he was “ so anxious” over the election results he could hardly stand it. This was a grown man. I replied to him to put the video game console away, grow up, move out of Mom’s basement, and attempt to be a responsible grown adult male for a change, with real responsibilities.
As I’ve always said, you can call into work sick, but don’t call in “nervous”. Nervous is for weak women, and very small dogs. Men don’t have time for being nervous.
My youngest called to check my mood less than a week out. What she really wanted to do was to provoke, to tweak, to rattle dad up into going all Right Wing crazy.
I had to disappoint her and tell her I was too tired, too beaten, and too over it all at this point to really care.
Either we are living in a brain-washed society that watches too much MSNBC and CNN incapable of thinking for themselves, and who will vote in a Democratic regime that will bankrupt us all into another 1929, or we will have enough sense as a nation to try it Trump’s way and cut the size of the Federal government for a change, and to make some attempt to close the border.
I told her the one certainty is that we simply cannot afford to keep going on this way.
We are very near on the time when thirty-six trillion dollars in debt comes home to roost.
Trump promises to reverse the course of spending. With the Democrats we get to stay on the kleptocracy train until everything comes off the tracks.
That, my friends, is how I see it from this little corner, of this little home, by the sea.
I don’t get anxious, but I do get exhausted.
I voted yesterday, and felt some sense of relief. For me the war is over.
All that is left is to see what flag is flying after the smoke clears next week.
And to see whether I’ll spend the next four years as a Nazi, or as a Freedom Fighter.
You made me laugh out loud reading your West Side Story remarks. You’re old fashioned common sense and I appreciate your perspective. Thank you, Michael.
