I worked briefly in construction as a young man, just turned sixteen and needing Summer employment. Friends of the family running a general contracting business hired me to be the “gopher boy”, carry lumber, bags of cement, doing coffee runs, running to the local dump with all the stuff that had to be removed from the job site.
Coffee runs and dump runs were my favorite part of the job, since manual labor and myself have been estranged since day one. Sure I took the job knowing about the demands of the position, but I wanted a divorce from carrying drywall, two-by-fours, nails, and especially bags of cement within the first hour of the first day on the job.
I’d had some experience having worked for an uncle since thirteen on job sites. Mostly painting and grunt work. My dad could have built an entire home singlehandedly, electric, plumbing, concrete, finish work.
Me?
If I couldn’t talk to make a living I’d have starved to death. I can’t drive a nail, I don’t even want to change light bulbs in the home. Fell off a ladder once and damn near broke my back, I’ve been suffering from that one for over twenty years. Where manual labor is concerned my career starts and stops with plugging something into the wall.
I say all this to explain that back-in-the-day on those job sites there was a mix of lower middle class, black and white, that dominated the job site. Everyone mixed and mingled and did no separate by race, after work we’d all head for the same watering hole together, black and white, drink, laugh, give each other shit, the locations of the jobs changed, the projects changed, and even some of the people changed, but the process of becoming a “work family” that would hang at lunch, and drink together after work, was a constant.
As a Lily-White Suburbanite, little private all-boys school kid from a virtually all-white school, the construction job was my first encounter with black men in any environment. And what I found was that class was all that mattered, color meant nothing. After that third beer you’d begin to see the real person behind the worker bee, people would become comfortable around “friends”, speak more openly.
The former hod carrier, who’d been promoted to drywall installer, would tell you that what they wanted to do was move up to finish carpentry, which paid better, was seen as a required skill on the job site. The finish man was the most respected on site. He put those final touches on the project that made everything look fantastic and worth the investment.
I heard black aspiration first hand. Men I could tell hadn’t been dealt my more favorable hand in life expressing a desire to work to get up, and out, and earn a better paycheck. Which I began to recognize was a universal desire. There was no racial conflict on those job sites, just a bonding, which was necessary if the vacant space was to take the shape the job required.
Fast forward thirty years and more, and I’m sitting at a red light, it’s just past 3:30 in the afternoon, and the oceanfront condominium job site is emptying out. Making me recall those days of throwing a cement bag over my shoulder and taking that first step onto a ladder heading for the second deck. That instant feeling of “Oh no, I can’t possibly make it up this ladder with this bag weighing me down”. I was fortunate, life circumstances and parental sacrifice didn’t condemn to a life of manual labor whether I wanted it or not.
But as I sit watching the job site empty, I notice one thing right away. Every person leaving in a hard hat is four-foot-nine. Every one of them is Hispanic. In this long line of men leaving the work zone, there are no white men, there are no black men, none.
As they’ve pressed the button for street crossing the light is extra long. And a sea of men cross directly in front of my car. Hundreds and hundreds of men crossing to the bus stop leading off island, over the bridge, back to the mainland and less expensive housing. And every one of them is Hispanic.
Now my grandmother’s name as I’ve said here before was Maria Rosada Juanita Gonzales, born in Arizona, I’m a quarter Hispanic myself. I hold no grudge against the Hispanics, I am one. Family lore said we were related to one of the original seven mission families of California. I take pride in my heritage.
But sitting at that light I wondered, how many of these men are here illegally, and what of those black men I used to work with, the ones who aspired to use the construction industry to move up, and out. To learn a greater trade, to maybe start out as a hod carrier but then take on the stilts to do drywall work, and on to finish carpentry, to increase their pay, improve their lives, live the American dream?
How do they ever compete on a job site full of illegals willing to accept a lesser pay for the same work, because by comparison in their own native country even minimum wage is an excessive amount of money to these illegal workers?
And qui bono?
Who benefits?
Are condo owners really benefitting from a lowered cost of building since the owner used illegal labor, or are they paying market rate and the condo owner himself is squeezing out a ton of extra profits from cheaper, illegal, labor?
Are Nike sneakers any cheaper because they use slave labor in China, or are the owners off Nike, in conjunction with the elite stockholding class, selling Nike shoes at top dollar and placing the cost differential in their already fat pockets?
Is there any doubt that all of these Hispanic illegals taking jobs in construction, food processing, lawn maintenance, tree trimming, and other industries are depressing wages? American citizens will work for a paycheck, but they won’t sell themselves short. A construction job requiring skilled labor and talent that should pay twenty-five to thirty-five dollars and hour and more, depressed to sixteen dollars an hour from illegal alien competition, isn’t going to attract the US born worker. And can you blame them? You cannot raise a family on that wage.
I am not unique. Right where you live and exist you can see what I see. A developing area of all Hispanic stores, bodegas, taco fast food places, all the local signs in Spanish. If you live in a Salisbury, Maryland or Georgetown, Delaware hard by the chicken processing plants, and chicken industry, it doesn’t take long to find the new all Hispanic section even in the smallest rural town.
We’ve been over run with illegal immigrants these past forty years. Some say twenty million live amongst us, some say thirty million. I’d have to say those estimates are grossly low. I’d say we’ve seen a minimum of forty million enter and live amongst us illegally. The interaction is too pervasive, too all encompassing to be too few.
I personally interact with them here, weekly. From the lawn care people, to the pool cleaners, to the house cleaner the wife brings in once a month. All Hispanic. Illegal or legal, I don’t ask questions, that answer is left to the business owner employing them.
My own feelings are that you cannot walk across the border of a sovereign nation and participate in their country illegally. You need to be removed. You need to go home.
And while I realize that everyone who has crossed has done so for a better life, that isn’t their decision to make. We have rules, we are a civilized nation of mores, culture, and rules. Allowing those rules to be circumvented only leads to chaos, and decline.
And it is axiomatic that you cannot have open borders and a welfare state. That will bankrupt the host nation.
So I have a rather hard and fast opinion on illegal immigration. Every last one of those people here illegally must be removed and sent back to their home country. I don’t care if they’ve been here thirty years, established a family, held a job, and been a productive citizen. Go, gone. They are robbing two nations, ours by depressing wages meant for a naturalized citizen, and their own home nation of a productive worker that could have helped implement real change and improvement in their homeland.
My heart runs cold to the plight of the illegal.
You shouldn’t have come here, you shouldn’t have crossed our border illegally, you do not belong here, you’ve broken our laws, damaged our wage structure, cost our schools billions of dollars, taxed our hospitals and healthcare industries, caused rental increases in the poorest areas, and the uninsured motorist claims alone you’ve caused runs into the billions of dollars.
All of the illegals here have to go. Now.
The positive impact of removing forty million and more here illegally would be fantastic. Lowered rents and cost of housing for those with the most need. Better starting wages in entry level jobs. Greater job prospects and higher pay for American born workers. Lowered insurance rates. A better run and better funded hospital and healthcare system. ER room emptied of competition to the native born.
Smaller classrooms, a better environment for learning since curriculum doesn’t have to be dumbed down to those who can’t even speak the language. Less costs in education. Lower welfare costs, entire industries that now cater to the illegal removed completely.
And more opportunity for our natural born citizens of all colors, creeds, and races.
Riot all you want, destroy the city in which you reside. Be a crazed activist. Raise the Mexican flag and demand a return to 1830 era borders that can consume all of the American Southwest. Scream “La Raza”, extoll the virtues of the Reconquistador Movement. Go online and make a Tik Tok about how we “white Americans” should never eat a taco again exploiting their native culture. Throw bricks, break windows, loot. Go nuts.
You are on the wrong side of the issue.
And you are showing your true colors.
This isn’t about a people’s “humanity”, it is about a goal, an aim, a vengeful desire to get back land that you think naturally belongs to your people. Thanks for so easily exposing the truth behind the lies.
The politicians, the blue ones, the Democrats, embrace you for inflating Congressional seats through the census count, embrace you for getting on voter rolls and allowing mass ballot stuffing to ensure Democratic rule, embrace you for signing up for a driver’s license where they have a “motor-voter” bill, which then allows you to vote, illegal or not.
For the Democrats this is a power-move, a way to ensure they keep and maintain control. And how beautiful that black citizens stay so loyal to the party as Democrats destroy all of their advancement opportunities in favor of the illegal. No more struggling black construction worker, working his way up the ladder in construction, dreaming of doing finish work in which he can take pride, and take home a nice wage.
Yes, it is all that simple.
Remove the illegal and lower class blacks immediately benefit. “They took our jobs” is real. Hollywood can spoof and laugh all they want at this obscene notion, but it is true.
Behind these riots are well organized forces. Pallets of brick, boxes of head shields, don’t arrive on site organically. There are well funded Far Leftist groups involved, and it would surprise me not a whit if we the American taxpayer are funding it all through NGO’s, and that somehow Soros is involved. It appears to the casual observer reading between the lines of the Los Angeles riots that somehow unions are involved in funding the rioters. I read one report that they arrested an undercover FBI agent handing out incendiary devices.
There are dark forces behind the idea of keeping forty million illegals inside our system. There are strong organizations allied to the cause. the La Raza movement is real, strong, powerful, and well politically connected on the Left, a true platform of the Democratic Party.
The real mystery to me sitting here is how black America supports the illegal community. As I see it they pay the highest price for the inclusion of illegals. The illegals occupy the schools with their children and water down the curriculum, the illegals compete with that community in particular for entry level jobs. They compete on housing, they compete on receiving government programs, healthcare funds.
I keep hearing the knee jerk Liberal saying “but that one illegal immigrant, they could be making a difference here, they could help cure cancer if given the opportunity, they could become successful here and change lives”.
Well they could also do the same in their home country, if one man can make such a difference, then have them go home and change the living conditions there so dramatically that no one would choose to leave.
Fidel Castro sure changed Cuba. Maybe not for the better, but he proved one man can make a sincere difference.
I don’t care if lawn maintenance cost goes up, I don’t care if the monthly housekeeper cost goes up, or that it costs another thirty dollars a month to have the pool serviced, every illegal here has to go. Now. Gone. Back.
Trump is right to send in the National Guard, and the Marines. Deport, deport some more, and then keep deporting. Until the worm turns and they begin to self deport.
I’ve no sympathy for the illegal. Everyone is dealt a hand of circumstances. You do the best with what you have, and what you are given. You don’t cheat the line.
And hey, thanks for waving that big Mexican flag, and demonstrating your true loyalties. Thanks for your vocal support of the Reconquistador Movement, and not hiding your true intent behind a batch of lies.
You just make it all easier to justify our position to remove you.
If your first love is Mexico, please allow our President to assist you in free transportation back home to the land you love.
Illegals, go home.
Now.
The entire policy leads straight back to Joe Biden. We now have an issue dividing America like the civil war. Watch the new Victor Davis Hansen video. This is not going to end well.
Agree. I’ve read some sorrowful stories about immigrants who came due to persecution, but they have had time to do things right, some have been here 10 plus years with no effort to become legal. My maternal grandparents came legally from communist Germany. It needs to be done the legal way!
