The California wildfires that have swept through Los Angeles leaving death, devastation, and complete destruction in its path should be the perfect case study of our divide, and a referendum on Leftists policies.
It should be, but it won’t be.
The Left is too far gone, too insane, and too stubborn to ever admit when they are in the wrong. And they have developed such a seething hatred for all things Trump, MAGA, and the new Right, they despise their fellow Americans so much, the very idea of admitting to them all that they were in the wrong makes them feel as if they are groveling to Satan himself. So there will not be a moment of self-reflection after this tragedy. None at all.
Trump sent out an X post on the California wildfires pointing out some basic response flaws that are readily evident for all to see, and Gavin Newsom’s response was to say that since Trump didn’t believe in Climate Change his view was negated.
What does Climate Change, if it even exists, have to do with running out of water to fight a wildfire in the middle of the conflagration? When the current administration did not refill the reservoirs properly knowing that the fire season was coming.
What does Climate Change, if it even exists, have to do with cleaning up the forest floor, removing the downed limbs, leaves, and other tinder that can help spread a fire much more rapidly, and with a far greater power, than if the forest floor was cleaned of this debris, and fire breaks created each season?
This is how far gone we are in our divide. California has now, and has for years, had a Democrat Super Majority. The entire state is in complete control by the Democrats. And has been for years. Ronald Reagan, Republican former Governor, is long dead. And yet we are so far gone in our divide that Newsom and company will find a way to blame Republicans for this self-created disaster, and everyone on the Left will nod their heads in unison.
California Democrats will not take any responsibility for this disaster. And the voters will vote back in either the same politicians, or politicians cut from the same cloth the next election.
At the same time I keep hearing about Climate Change, Climate Change, Climate Change, there are photos out on the internet of Ronald Reagan and others escaping a wildfire back in the early 1960’s, and someone on X commented on the article from back then noting that dozens of one-hundred thousand dollar homes were burning. How quaint a cost basis considering today’s inflated California and Los Angeles real estate prices.
There have been wildfires in that particular region forever. The Santa Anna winds are legendary. I grew up on the East Coast, and by the time I was five I’d heard about two things that sounded foreign, exotic, and far away; Santa Anna winds, and Swallows returning to Capistrano. I had no idea what either of those things were, except that they happened way out in California, the same place as the annual Rose Parade on television, and maybe if I was extremely fortunate I’d get to see the place one day.
What kind of magical place had a name like Capistrano, and also grew so many roses they could decorate huge floats with them, and celebrate them with a big football contest? The air there, I thought, must be as fragrant and beautiful as can be. At five all I could think was, maybe, maybe if I can get a good job, I’ll get to visit one day way in the future.
Oh, but now I’ve seen it, been to Los Angeles a dozen times or more. Beautiful place absolutely ruined by Liberals and the rich. Perhaps the oddest thing about visiting Los Angeles is seeing the most beautiful people, with the most costly possessions, the most fashionable clothing, the most expensive accessories, and the most stylish sun glasses, and every last one of them looks as miserable as they can be.
Go to the Grove Market one morning, just a beautiful area of Los Angeles with fresh baked goods and the best coffee you can buy. See people pulling up to the Valet in Bentleys, Porsches, Maybachs, and watch them get out and head into the shopping district with a scowl, and never a smile. Jewelry dripping from their wrists, and necks, and yet they look so unhappy you’d think they were checking into the county jail.
But back to those Santa Anna winds. They blow from the northeast, warm and with a ferocity. And if a fire takes hold in the canyons, even a small brush fire where the tinder has dried out and is ripe to catch, the Santa Anna winds will blow the tinder far and wide and spread the fire rapidly. Embers taking flight. Embers igniting anything and everything when they alight.
And get this, this has happened forever.
Way, way before humans were even around to effect “Climate Change”.
And do you know how to elevate the wildfires into a major catastrophe that can be blamed on Climate Change?
Don’t clean up the ground clutter. Don’t fill up the reservoirs so that you run out of water to fight the out-of-control and running wild, fires as they burn. Cut the budget for fireman and equipment so that you are understaffed when it comes time to fight the fire. Honor DEI as the hiring metric so that you have the incompetent and inexperienced in charge when it comes time to actually fight the fires that will inevitably run wild when the Santa Anna winds blow. Remove a few dams so that you do not have as many reservoirs with water from which to draw the water required to fight the fires.
And here might be the best part. Build multi-million dollar homes across the fire region, all over the place, everywhere the past fires have raged and burnt ground in the past. So that as we move forward into the future the tragedy and loss becomes far greater than it ever should be, which can then be blamed on “Climate Change”.
And if “Climate Change” is the real enemy, and not complete and utter Democratic mismanagement, then the Democrats can add tax after tax in the name of “Climate Change”, and accrue money and power to themselves through control over this newfound fund, allowing to exempt themselves from blame, absolving them of malfeasance, and in actuality strengthening their position.
Excuse me dear Liberal sir, Mr. and Mrs. Celebrity, we have here a photo of Ronald Reagan and his neighbors from over fifty years ago having to escape wildfires where you and your architect are now building a six million dollar mid-century modern overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean in Pacific Palisades. See this charred earth here in the photo? Yeah, this is the exact spot where you have laid out the foundation for your new home. Is this a good idea, to invest six million on land where every two generations the Santa Anna winds blow, and wildfires start, and there is a very real possibility that your six million dollar investment and all the contents could be burned to a crisp?
This insanity, and what fuels my own lack of any sympathy for the loss out there, is that all this is known.
You know they built in a fire zone, they know they built in a fire zone, everyone knows they over-developed homes and neighborhoods in a fire zone. And now that the fires have raged and consumed all, the fingers all point outward.
Compound the problem is that they then voted for politicians that have created the perfect storm for the wildfires to do the biggest damage. The water policies, the forest management policies, the hiring policies, all of these things in Democratically controlled Super Majority Democrat Los Angeles, California have conspired to make things worse, worse, and worse.
And yet that windbag Gavin Newsom, that absolutely worthless empty suit of gel topped hair, a man as conniving, contemptuous, and awful as exists in politics, will go before a microphone and blame “Climate Change”, and deny, deny, deny that any of the policies of Liberal California government contributed to the catastrophe.
I guess I will have to “Google” to see if today the swallows still return to Capistrano.
I do know that I’ve read about the wildfires for years and years. One of the main reasons my own daughter and son-in-law moved away from their Los Angeles home was that they expected that one day soon the wildfires would crest the hills above Los Angeles and make their way down toward LA proper. They saw and understood the mis-management. They saw the policies in place that portended future devastation. They’d had enough of high taxation, Liberalism, and expenses run amok.
Now I am not so callous that I do not mourn the loss of life from this current wildfire. And I am sure there are many suffering loss today, and that is indeed sad. I would not wish this upon anyone.
But I am a realist, I do not live in the fantasy land of blaming “Climate Change” for human failures. And the human failures of the Liberal Elite running Los Angeles and California are legion.
And that saps my sympathy for them all.
Liberals have ruined the most beautiful state in the union. And they learn nothing.
The next election they will vote in more Liberals. They will double-down on horrible policies. They will take funds from the fire fighting budgets and push them to fight homelessness instead, where the funds really just go to an NGO run by their donors, and does nothing to solve the homeless crisis there.
Although I was raised Catholic I am what is referred to as an NPC, a non-practicing Catholic. The church “sins” during my lifetime, the buggering and cover-up, removed me from the church. But I cannot help but be spiritual enough that I don’t wonder if perhaps there is something biblical in the burning of Los Angeles. God’s way of smoting the current-day Philistines.
I am certain in my belief that so much of the abject filth in our popular culture emanates from the very place these fires rage. All the porn shoots down valley there, all the degenerate movies being produced right there, and all those “WAP” songs promoted right down the hill from where the fires rage.
If God was going to send retribution to that smut-filled land, I would think burning it all to the ground would certainly be a first choice for him.
Tomorrow Liberals across the country will hear “Climate Change” and nod their heads in unison, and ascribe the reason for all this carnage to the new religion of the Left.
And isn’t that biblical as well, with Liberals now creating a false God, “Climate Change”, and didn’t Moses bring down a fire upon those that built pagan statues of worship when he brought back God’s word?
Do I really believe this religious connection? No, I have to admit I do not. I just speculate.
What I do know is that if you build a home in a flood zone, don’t complain when one day you watch as the raging waters take away your life’s possessions.
And if you decide to build atop the Canyons of Los Angeles, beware the Santa Anna winds and dry conditions.
One day you might have to flee for your life.
All in all, a good piece except that you went a bit too easy on Newsom.
“If God was going to send retribution to that smut-filled land, I would think burning it all to the ground would certainly be a first choice for him.”
